Shading counts CPD pattern alerts published 5 September to 4 October 2026, by district named in the alert; it counts police publications, not offences. The closures layer draws the 595 permits holding a full street closure active 5 to 11 October 2026. The combined layer places every venue, festival, gathering, closure and public meeting located in this edition. Verified venues sit at their own checked position, addresses at the US Census point, and permitted events, closures and filming holds on the coordinates their permit rows carry. The marathon course line runs through its turning points and is approximate.

CPD pattern alerts

28 published in 30 days

28 alerts were published in the 30 days from 5 September to 4 October. 22 are counted; the six sexual-offense alerts are listed and not counted, and their references are not reproduced. No alert has been published since the last edition, and none inside the window by the 03:35 CDT feed reading on Monday 5. Five counted alerts are robbery-classified, the largest single class. The 1st District carries 4; the 2nd, 7th and 19th carry 3 each.22 Alert volume measures how often the Department publishes a notice, not how much crime occurred.

Published times are CDT, from the Department’s feed. Districts, series, pattern and reference are as printed on each alert, with one exception carried from the previous edition: 26-CWP-025 prints “24th (Shakespeare)”, but Shakespeare is the 14th District, and the Department’s feed title and file name both read “14th & 19th”, so it is shown as 14.22

Note on unpermitted assembly

Where this brief notes that a gathering is unpermitted, that is a statement about data availability and nothing else. Peaceful assembly and protest are protected activity. TB Defense reports gatherings solely because they affect how long it takes to move through a street, and takes no position on the subject, organisers or participants.

Since the last edition

Edition No. 6 covered 2 to 6 October.45

  • Weather verified dry, with warmer highs and stronger gusts than forecast. No. 6 forecast Saturday 3 sunny with a high near 65 and Sunday 4 near 71 with gusts to 20 mph. Saturday recorded 69 at O’Hare and 70 at Midway, with peak gusts of 19 and 23 mph; Sunday recorded 73 and 74, with peak gusts of 23 and 27 mph. Both days recorded 0.00 in of precipitation at both airports.46, 45 No NWS alert named Cook County from 00:00 Saturday 3 to 04:00 Monday 5. In Lake County, NWS Chicago updated a Flood Warning for the Des Plaines River near Russell four times, from 10:24 CDT on Saturday 3 to 19:27 CDT on Sunday 4, the last until further notice.47
  • Baseball and football. The White Sox won ALDS Game 1 at Cleveland 3 to 0 on Saturday 3; Game 2 is at Cleveland on Monday 5 at 16:00 CDT, and Game 3 at Rate Field on Wednesday 7 is firm.7 The Bears beat the Jets 23 to 12 at Soldier Field on Sunday 4 (SECONDARY).48
  • Bridgeview. The Palestine Fest and the counter-mobilisation listed in No. 6 for Sunday 4 both took place; see In the news.49
  • Tuesday 6 forecast revised. The grid forecast now gives a high near 71 with south gusts to 25 mph, against No. 6’s 65 and 5 to 10 mph.18, 45
  • CPD alerts. No alert has been published since No. 6. The counted total falls from 24 to 22 because P26-5-015 (16th and 25th, published 4 September) and JK393685 (12th, published 3 September) are now outside the 30-day window; both remain in the Department’s feed.22
  • New since No. 6. Blue Line single-tracking between Addison and Montrose runs on four nights, Monday 5 to Thursday 8; No. 6 printed the two that fell inside its window.12 Marathon week: the Grant Park staging closures, the expo, the Abbott Chicago 5K and the race.1, 8 ALDS Game 3 and, if necessary, Game 4 at Rate Field; Bulls preseason, Gorillaz, the Blackhawks and Olivia Rodrigo at the United Center; the Fire against New York City FC at Soldier Field.7, 3, 4, 6 Two demonstrations on and after the third anniversary of 7 October.9

  • Corrections to No. 6.
    1. ACEP26 Scientific Assembly runs 5 to 8 October at McCormick Place, according to the organiser; No. 6 gave 5 to 7 October, venue not stated.32

In the news

Chicago

  • Garage robbery and shooting in Streeterville, followed by a carjacking at a grocery garage. At about 18:30 on Friday 2 October, two masked men shot a man who refused to hand over his property on a below-ground level of a garage in the 400 block of East Illinois Street, then took a second driver’s vehicle at gunpoint in the garage at 255 East Grand Avenue (SECONDARY, citing CPD).51 For protective details: garages and vehicle approaches are the exposed points of a downtown movement, and the level is checked before the principal goes to the vehicle.
  • Clash outside Palestine Fest in Bridgeview. On Sunday 4 October a small far-right group and a much larger counter-protest clashed near a gas station by SeatGeek Stadium, where the fourth annual Palestine Fest was held. Local police and Illinois State Police largely kept the groups apart, at least two people were detained, and the festival grounds stayed calm.49 For protective details: approach routes and nearby fuel stops belong in the event perimeter plan alongside the venue gate.

World

  • Cockpit attack on a flydubai flight described as attempted terrorism. On 3 October the UAE Attorney General said the co-pilot of flight FZ1073, Dubai to Tel Aviv on 30 September, attacked the captain with the crash axe and tried to take the controls; according to eyewitnesses and Israeli officials, crew and passengers entered the cabin and subdued him. Israel’s Prime Minister ordered a review of security for foreign flights on 4 October.52 For protective details: carrier and route vetting matters when principals fly politically sensitive routes.
  • Two charged in the United Kingdom over an alleged plot against Manchester’s Jewish community. UK Counter Terrorism Police charged two Iranian nationals with preparing acts of terrorism, alleging they sought explosive-device components and conducted reconnaissance of potential targets; they were due at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 3 October. The allegations are unproven.53 For protective details: hostile reconnaissance is the stage at which trained site staff can detect a plot.

EP and VIP

  • Three students charged with threatening the President before a rally in Mobile. Three University of South Alabama students appeared in federal court in Mobile, Alabama, on Friday 2 October on charges of threatening the President; federal affidavits allege threats posted on social media on 27 and 29 September in the run-up to his political rally in Mobile that day.54 For protective details: the threats surfaced through monitoring of posts about an announced appearance, which belongs in every advance.
  • Security guard arrested after a confrontation with police in College Station, Texas. After a Texas A&M football game on 3 to 4 October, police clearing the roadway at Northgate say an influencer’s security guard shoved an officer to the ground; the guard was charged with interference with public duties and the influencer with evading arrest.55 For protective details: compliance with lawful police orders and moving the principal away keeps the detail intact, since an arrested agent leaves the principal uncovered.

No. The City’s permit file holds no closure of DuSable Lake Shore Drive from Monday 5 to Sunday 11 October 2026. On Sunday 11 October the marathon closes Inner Lake Shore Drive between Belmont and Sheridan from 06:00 to an anticipated 12:00, and the organiser’s staging plan closes Roosevelt Road between Columbus Drive and DuSable Lake Shore Drive from 11:00 on Saturday 10 October; Balbo Drive on the same stretch is permitted closed from 24 September to 16 October. CTA reroutes southbound #136, #146 and #148 buses via Foster, DuSable Lake Shore Drive and Lawrence to 17:00 on Tuesday 6 October as printed.

What is the worst window for movement in Chicago this week?

Sunday 11 October 2026 from 06:00, when the Bank of America Chicago Marathon closes its 26.2-mile course across the 1st, 2nd, 9th, 12th, 18th and 19th police districts; segments reopen from 10:30 to 18:00 on the organiser’s anticipated times, and CTA reroutes 34 bus routes from 06:30 to 16:00. The heaviest venue window is Tuesday 6 October from 19:00, when the Blackhawks home opener at the United Center and the Chicago Fire at Soldier Field have a combined venue maximum of 83,217, with West Madison Street closed from Wood to Damen.

Which streets are closed for events?

69 special-event permits touch Monday 5 to Sunday 11 October 2026, 40 of them block parties; special-event full-closure permits span from 8 on Monday to 38 on Saturday, and 23 on Sunday. The through streets closed for events are West Madison Street from Wood to Damen for the Blackhawks home opener (Tuesday), the Grant Park drives from 04:00 Thursday, Wacker Drive, Harrison, State, Franklin and Van Buren in the Loop for the Abbott Chicago 5K (Saturday, 07:00 to 09:00 or 10:00 as printed), Clark, Halsted and Larrabee for a shakeout run (Saturday), and the full marathon course from 06:00 Sunday.

Will weather delay flights at O'Hare or Midway?

No weather constraint is forecast. The Chicago forecast is sunny or mostly sunny every day from Monday 5 to Sunday 11 October 2026, with no thunder in any hour and a probability of precipitation no higher than 7 percent; on Tuesday 6 October the south wind gusts as high as 25 mph. Neither airport carries a ground stop, ground delay program, delay or closure in the FAA status file at its 03:35 CDT update on Monday 5 October 2026.

How many CPD alerts are open?

22 CPD pattern alerts are counted for the 30 days from 5 September to 4 October 2026, across 15 districts; 5 are robbery-classified and 3 name more than one district. Six sexual-offense alerts from the same period are listed and not counted, and no alert has been published since the previous edition. The counts measure how often the Department publishes a notice, not how much crime occurred.

What is the forecast?

Dry and mild in Chicago from Monday 5 to Sunday 11 October 2026. Monday 5 is sunny, near 63; Tuesday 6 sunny, near 71, with south gusts to 25 mph; Wednesday 7 sunny, near 74; Thursday 8 mostly sunny, near 68; Friday 9 mostly sunny, near 66, with a 7 percent chance of a sprinkle; Saturday 10 sunny, near 69; Sunday 11 mostly sunny, near 74. No NWS watch, warning or advisory is in effect at the Loop forecast point, and the forecaster flags possible highs in the low to mid 80s in spots for the weekend. In Lake County, a Flood Warning for minor flooding on the Des Plaines River runs to 13:00 on Wednesday 7 October.

Ratings and color coding

How to read the shading

Each rating scores how much something constrains movement across the period. None of them scores danger, and none of them scores a place.

Low

No scheduled constraint. Normal routes, nothing on the calendar that changes them.

Moderate

A predictable window will slow movement, and it has a defined end: stadium egress, a festival footprint, a holiday return build.

High

A route or a capacity is removed rather than reduced, and there is no equivalent substitute.

Disclaimer on the ratings

The ratings are TB Defense’s own editorial judgement, not an official designation and not a statistical model. They describe conditions as of publication and go stale. A Low rating is not an assurance of safety and a High rating is not a prediction of harm. Ratings apply to movement across the region, never to a neighborhood, a community or a group of people.

Every figure comes from the source named in the end notes and is held as a snapshot in this repository, so that any number here can be regenerated. Sources were retrieved on 5 October 2026 from 03:30 CDT; the weather group was re-pulled at 12:57 CDT and the Illinois alerts read at 12:54 CDT.18, 17, 20, 21 Nothing was estimated or carried over from a previous edition, except where section 07 quotes that edition to score it.45

Times printed by a source with a zone, among them the MLB, NHL, NFL, Live Nation, FAA, NWS and City Clerk feeds and the CPD feed, are converted to Chicago time and labelled CDT. Times printed by a source with no zone, among them city permits, CTA alerts, the marathon organiser, event listings and ward offices, are given in 24-hour form and marked “as printed” or “as listed”.12, 8, 1, 9

Street closures cover permits filed inside the City of Chicago and no suburb; a permit is a filing, not a street condition. The closure layer and the district table count distinct permits holding a full street closure active at some point in the window; section 04 counts the special-event subset separately.2, 8 Filming and parade permits are read from the filming resource, where a closure appears only in free text.31 District boundaries were retrieved once and drawn into this page as fixed geometry, so the map loads nothing at page load and works inside the PDF.11

Positions are taken from a verified venue list first, then the US Census geocoder, and permitted events and closures sit on the coordinates their own permit rows carry. The marathon course is drawn through its turning points, on the Census geocoder where an address on the course places it and on the calibrated address grid at straight-street corners, so the line is approximate.1 Crowd sizes are not forecast anywhere in this brief. Where a number appears it is a venue maximum; the United Center and Rate Field figures come from a general reference work and are tagged SECONDARY at every use.13, 14, 26 WARN entries are flagged by separation date, never by the date the notice was filed.56

The Week Ahead publishes every Monday at 06:00 and covers the following seven days, except when Monday is a federal holiday, in which case it publishes Tuesday and covers a shorter window. The Weekend Brief publishes every Friday at 06:00 and covers Friday through the following Tuesday. Both cover the Chicago metropolitan region. TB Defense, 1021 W. Adams St., Suite 200-37, Chicago, IL 60607.

Sources. Everything here comes from open, publicly available sources. Agencies revise forecasts, venues change start times, listings disagree, permit records show filings rather than street conditions, and police alerts describe preliminary information. TB Defense publishes what the record says at the time of writing and corrects the web edition when it changes.

People named in this brief. Public officials are named in their official capacity where a source has quoted or attributed a statement to them. People involved in pending matters, and victims of reported incidents, are described by role and not by name, even where a news source has published the name. Reports of investigations describe allegations only, and every person in a pending matter is presumed innocent.

Chicago Police Department material. CPD alerts summarized here come from the Department's public news feed. TB Defense is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the Chicago Police Department, and nothing in this brief is a CPD statement or official law enforcement guidance. Anyone with information about a reported incident should contact CPD directly, not TB Defense.

Scope and limits. This brief reports publicly available information reviewed near publication time. Events, closures, demonstrations, law enforcement activity, weather, infrastructure and aviation conditions change without notice. The absence of a reported threat, demonstration, incident or closure here does not confirm the absence of risk. This publication is informational. It is not security advice, not a recommendation for any organization or circumstance, and not a substitute for checking conditions immediately before movement. It creates no undertaking by TB Defense to detect, predict or warn of any event.

Not advice about people or places. Nothing here rates a neighborhood, a community or an individual, and district shading counts police publications rather than offences.
