Security Risk Assessments in Chicago
Assessments that show you where you are exposed, so protection is sized to the real threat.
A security risk assessment identifies where a person, family, residence, or organization is exposed, and what to do about it. Based in Chicago and led by a Chicago Police officer with 20 years of service, TB Defense conducts risk assessments locally, nationally, and internationally, and delivers prioritized, practical recommendations you can act on.
What a risk assessment includes
- A structured review of the person, household, or organization and its routine
- Identification of credible threats and the people or situations behind them
- Assessment of physical, residential, and travel exposure
- Review of existing security measures and where they fall short
- Surveillance detection and a read on whether someone is being watched
- A written assessment with clear, prioritized recommendations
How does a security risk assessment work?
We begin with a confidential consultation and gather the facts that matter: the concern, the history, the routine, and the environment. We assess the exposure in person where the situation calls for it. Then we deliver a written assessment that sets out our assessment of the most significant risks and what to do about them, in priority order, whether or not you engage us for the work that follows.
The assessment comes first, so you spend on the risk that is real, not the risk that is assumed.
Who needs a security risk assessment?
Individuals and families facing a specific concern, executives and boards weighing their exposure, and counsel who need an independent, professional read on a threat before deciding how to respond. If the concern is a specific person, group, or communication, protective intelligence may be the better fit.
An assessment is often the first step before executive protection, residential security, corporate security, or coverage for an event or a house of worship. Assessments are led by people who have done threat assessment professionally, including counterterrorism protective intelligence work protecting public officials; meet our leadership.
Common questions
Do I need an assessment before hiring protection?
It is often the most cost-effective place to start. An assessment shows whether the situation calls for standing protection, a one-time response, or changes to routine, so your budget goes to the real risk. When protection is needed right away, we can put coverage in place and assess alongside it.
Is the assessment confidential?
Yes. We treat the consultation and the written assessment as confidential and share findings with you, except where a subpoena, court order, or law requires disclosure. We do not trade on our clients' profiles, and we keep the details of the people and organizations we assess private.
What does a security risk assessment cover?
It covers the person, household, or organization and its routine; the credible threats and the people or situations behind them; physical, residential, and travel exposure; the security measures already in place and where they fall short; and signs that someone may be watching. The result is a written assessment with clear, prioritized recommendations.
Can you assess a home, office, or venue outside Chicago?
Yes. TB Defense is based in Chicago and conducts security risk assessments locally, nationally, and internationally, for residences, offices, venues, and operations. We assess the exposure in person where the situation calls for it, and the recommendations are written for the specific site and the people who use it.
How is a risk assessment different from protective intelligence?
A risk assessment looks at the overall exposure of a person, household, site, or organization. Protective intelligence focuses on a specific threat: a person, group, or communication that has raised concern. Many clients start with one and add the other, and we will recommend the right starting point after the first conversation.
